After the success of HIP Fest (Hull International Photography Festival) over its 5 previous years (2014-2018), we are excitedly working on HIP Fest 2019 where the cultural importance of photography is recognised and celebrated.

HIP Fest 2018 had more than 10 exhibitions by award-winning visiting photographers & outstanding local talent, and 30 other events including masterclasses, photo-walks, discussions, and trade show. Hull International Photography Festival #HIPfest took over Princes Quay Shopping Centre for the 5th year. New for 2018; the successful London show, PhotoCity, and partners Fujiholics brought new excitement to the opening weekend. HIPfest opened on the evening of October 5th with a packed weekend program.

2018 Festival highlights included POP by legendary photographer Brian Griffin, a masterclass by Sean Tucker, The very moving “A Stranger In My Mother’s Kitchen” exhibition premiere by Celine Marchbank, 50’s Paris fashion and more from the Marilyn Stafford collection, #PhotoCityHull, Fujiholics Masterclasses and A1 Britain On The Verge by Patron Peter Dench.

Alan Raw Curator & CEO says: “In just five years, HIP Fest has established its credentials as one of the most significant photography events in the UK. We have worked hard to put together a stunning celebration of photography for 2018. I am particularly looking forward to presenting legendary works by Brian Griffin who will be signing copies of his outstanding book POP at HIP Gallery. I am also excited to host new work by our World Press Award-winning patron Peter Dench and welcoming Celine Marchbank and Marilyn Stafford to HIP Fest for the first time. After successfully curating PhotoCity London last year, I am delighted to be able to bring the PhotoCity tradeshow and urban exhibition to Hull, along with a fabulous program of master classes from PhotoCity partners Fujiholics. There will be something for everyone and plenty to learn and do.”

A £5 entry ticket (wristband) gives you access to all exhibitions, the HIPfest Prize Draw, discounts on site, learning opportunities and the ability to use purchased workshop & masterclass tickets. This is down from £15  last year. Workshops, master-classes, and portfolio reviews require additional tickets available on Eventbrite.

Hull International Photography Festival is an event where professionals come to exhibit, network, sell work, exchange ideas, and meet contacts. But also as an opportunity for the newly qualified, amateur & emerging photographer of any age & ability to immerse themselves in the world of photography, find information, gain support, share their passion and showcase their work alongside the best in the world, to a global network of photographers, peers, curators, editors, agents, photo enthusiasts and the visiting public. Over the years HIP fest has exhibited work by Dougie Wallace, Matthew Finn, Peter Dench, Tom Stoddart, Ian Macdonald, Frieke Janssen, Isabelle Pateer, John Bulmer, the Travel Photographer of The Year show the RPS Biennial and many more.
